For whites sensing decline, Donald Trump unleashes words of resistance

And during Mr. Obama’s presidency, whites have increasingly seen his policies as freighted
with preference toward blacks, according to data collected by Michael Tesler, a political
scientist at the University of California, Irvine. … As the 2016 campaign began, the
Republican Party was not just the party of most white voters. It was also, to use
Mr. Tesler’s phrase, the party of racial conservatism.
