States moving beyond U.S. minimum wage as Congress stalls

A study of local wage changes led by Arindrajit Dube, an economist at the University
of Massachusetts, Amherst found no detectable losses in employment from 1990 through
2006. David Neumark, an economist with the University of California, Irvine, argued
in 2006 that most research has found that higher minimum pay does have an impact on
the employment of low-wage workers, though it’s not always significant.
