Rick Perry, the swaggering, failed 2012 Republican presidential contender, is airing
radio spots decrying the state and urging businesses to head south....It’s hard to
imagine too many similarities between Maryland and Texas. Could the two states be
further apart demographically, politically or geographically? That said, some comparisons
can be made. Paychecks, for instance: Maryland’s weekly median earnings are way above
those of Texas, $769.11 to $600 in 2011, according to compare50.org, a database for
comparing states’ economies developed by UC Irvine economists.
