China is rapidly transforming into a global investment powerhouse, pouring money into economies across the planet. Chinese direct investment in the United States since 2000 has grown to a cumulative total of at least $25.4 billion, according to the New York-based Rhodium Group, which tracks the investments. Dorothy Solinger, a China scholar and political science professor at University of California, Irvine, said the differences remain large and the presidents are looking for ways to manage them. "Both are interested in creating a working relationship. I think it'll be more about that than about solving big problems," Solinger said. "Both sides realize that this is probably, if not at the moment, becoming the most important relationship in the world.”
