Jeremy Heis, logic & philosophy of science associate professor, has been named the 2015-2016 Visiting Professor in Russell and the History of Early Analytic Philosophy at McMaster University, home to the Bertrand Russell Archive and the Bertrand Russell Research Center in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The honor recognizes Heis’s ground-breaking historical research on a range of figures in the early analytic period. During his stay, Heis will pursue his research at the center, deliver a lecture on his results, and offer an advanced course in the history of analytic philosophy.
Heis’s main research focuses on the philosopher Kant, with a special emphasis on Kant’s influence on the philosophy of mathematics and early analytic philosophy, from Frege to Carnap. He received a B.A. in both philosophy and Latin from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh where he was also an Andrew Mellon Pre-Doctoral Fellow.
