A renowned UC Irvine professor is said to receive an award from President Obama, Thursday
at the White House. The President will present Vickie Ruiz with The 2014 National
Humanities Medal. She is one of ten honorees and the first ever from UC Irvine. Her
work in historical research, focuses on Latinas who fought for civil rights. The award
winners are chosen by the President and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
