Venice visual artist John Baldessari and actress Sally Field were among the recipients named by the White House Thursday of the 2014 National Medal of Arts, while UC Irvine history professor Vicki Lynn Ruiz will be honored with a 2014 National Humanities Medal. … Ruiz, meanwhile, will be hailed for her pioneering work documenting the history of 20th century Latinas “in a distinguished career that began with collecting oral testimony from Mexican immigrants who worked in U.S. canning factories.”
