The one-child policy took effect in 1980 …. From the get-go, the law has been viewed
as controversial within China. Feng Wang, professor of sociology at University of
California, Irvine, told gbtimes, “Support was mixed at the early years as many people
in China were told that the root cause of China’s problems was its large and growing
population.”
