UCI political science alumnus Jamison Power ’03 received an impressive honor at the California Democratic Party Convention, held at the Anaheim Convention Center May 15. Power was one of two recipients of the California Democratic Party Asian Pacific Islander Caucus’ 2015 Rising Star Award.

Honoring young leaders who have demonstrated dedication to the Asian Pacific Islander American community, this year’s award was the first of its kind for the caucus. Honorees were recognized alongside the 2015 Trailblazer Award-winners.

Power graduated summa cum laude and was an Order of Merit award recipient at UCI. He received his J.D. from UCLA in 2008 and now practices law at Arent Fox LLP in addition to serving as vice president of the Westminster School District’s Board of Education. He was honored by the caucus for his work promoting Asian-American culture in Westminster’s schools. After being elected to the school board in 2012, Power advocated for the appointment of the first Asian-American superintendent in the district’s history. In addition, he was instrumental in the implementation of a Vietnamese/English dual immersion program—the first of its kind in the state—that will be introduced to Westminster’s schools in the fall.

Joining Power in receiving recognition was fellow Rising Star Alissa Ko.
