But the gas price the week before the commission voted turned out to be the record
high for the decade, not a sign of things to come. Natural gas now sells for just
$3.53 per million BTUs. “Nobody saw this coming,” said Linda R. Cohen, a professor
of economics and law at UC Irvine and an expert on energy. “Nobody saw $5 natural
gas, let alone $3.50.”
