The UC Irvine School of Social Sciences, UC Irvine Korea Law Center, and the USC Casden Institute are proud to present a special hybrid event commemorating the 2025 Stacey Park Milbern Quarter. As the 19th coin in the American Women Quarters™ Program, the Stacey Park Milbern Quarter honors this trailblazing Korean-American activist who was instrumental in the modern Disability Justice movement. From her service on the North Carolina Commission for the Blind to her appointment to the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities under the Obama administration and her co-founding of the Disability Justice Culture Club, Milbern also championed the intersectional rights of queer and BIPOC communities while organizing mutual aid to vulnerable people in the Bay Area during the pandemic. She passed away on her 33rd birthday in 2020.

This event will explore the life and enduring legacy of Stacey Park Milbern, the artistic process of designing the coin that honors her - the first depicting a person in a wheelchair - and the American Women Quarters program.

This is the fifth in a series of events sponsored by the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine and other partners in recognition of the American Women Quarters program and the impactful women it honors. Prior events can be viewed here: Anna May Wong Quarter, Patsy Takemoto Mink Quarter, Celia Cruz Quarter, and Vera Rubin Quarter .

Featured panelists include:
  • Meera Deo, Professor and Director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement at Southwestern Law School
  • Elana Hagler, Artist
  • Craig Campell, Medallic Artist
  • Milbern Family
