The Demographic and Social Analysis (DASA) program at the University of California, Irvine is a one-year master's degree program designed to provide working professionals and recent graduates training in practical research skills needed to address analytical problems confronting society, business, government, and the nonprofit sector.

Through UCI's DASA program, students:

• Complete a 9 month affordable masters program at a top 50 research university.
• Study alongside world renowned population experts.
• Develop crucial skills in theory, research design, GIS, stats & demographic methods.
• Join a highly qualified network of demographic professionals.

Because personal behavior "scales up" into population trends, and population trends "scale down" to impact individuals, demography touches all facets of life.The study of demography offers a versatile approach for analyzing a broad range of social and economic issues.

Innovative, interdisciplinary research being done by UCI demographers has a direct local impact on policies impacting Californians as well as international policies. These include studies on:

• California's Safe Routes to School program.
• Roadway pollutant exposure at California child care facilities.
• Impact of housing vouchers on immigrants' residential choices.
• Effects of China's one-child policy.
• Influence of imprisonment and unemployment on race reporting.
• Impact of high-stakes educational testing on economic growth.
