We represent a collaborative attempt between graduate students and faculty to further professional enrichment activities for those faculty and students within International Studies. Specifically, the International Relations Group (IRG) is designed to provide a breadth of academic exposure and a depth of career skills development on a more extensive and permanent basis.
Our Goals:
-
1.Build social capital and facilitate networking among the IR graduate students and faculty, by providing various opportunities for students to encounter scholarship (and scholars) throughout the field.
-
2.Present a hospitable setting in which graduate students may air their own research concerns and projects before a sympathetic audience of their peers for constructive criticism and commentary.
-
3.Provide a forum for professional development and contextualize academic life in preparation for life as a scholar.
This site is devoted to meeting these ends as an ongoing project that offers a distinct opportunity for graduate students and faculty to work together through bi-weekly meetings and events. This collaboration facilitates both socialization and a common research agenda, and it is specifically designed to create a common platform for communication and exchange of experiences, ideas, and support at UCI.
