Professor Solingen is a Distinguished Professor and the Thomas T. and Elizabeth C. Tierney Chair in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of California Irvine. Most recently, she received the 2018 William and Katherine Estes Award from the National Academy of Sciences recognizing basic research on issues relating to nuclear weapons; the 2019 Distinguished Scholar award in International Security from the International Studies Association; and the 2020 Susan Strange Professorship at the London School of Economics. Solingen is a former President of the International Studies Association. She studies the reciprocal influence between international political economy and international security, globalization and its discontents, global supply chains, comparative regional orders, transnational diffusion, nuclear proliferation, international institutions, and science and technology, among other topics. Her book Nuclear Logics: Contrasting Paths in East Asia and the Middle East (Princeton University Press, 2007) won the American Political Science Association's Woodrow Wilson Award for best book in the discipline of political science, and the ISA's Jervis and Schroeder Award for best book on International History and Politics. Other books include Regional Orders at Century's Dawn (Princeton UP); Comparative Regionalism (Routledge); Industrial Policy, Technology, and International Bargaining (Stanford UP), and edited collections on Geopolitics, Supply Chains and International Relations of East Asia (Cambridge UP, forthcoming); Sanctions, Statecraft, and Nuclear Proliferation (Cambridge UP), The Politics of International and Regional Diffusion (International Studies Quarterly), and Scientists and the State (Univ. of Michigan Press). Her articles appeared in the American Political Science Review, International Organization, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, Comparative Politics, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Theoretical Politics, Global Governance, Review of International Studies, Journal of Democracy, International Relations of the Asia-Pacific, and New Political Economy, among others.




















Solingen is the recipient of awards from the MacArthur Foundation Research and Writing Award on Peace and International Cooperation, the Social Science Research Council-Mac Arthur Foundation Fellowship on Peace and Security in a Changing World, the Japan Foundation/SSRC Abe Fellowship, the Center for Global Partnership/Japan Foundation fellowship, the APSA Excellence in Mentorship Award, a Distinguished Teaching Award from UC Irvine's Academic Senate, and grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, United States Institute of Peace, Sloan Foundation, Columbia Foundation, University of California's Office of the President Laboratory Fees Research Program, Univ. of California's Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, and Univ. of California's Pacific Rim grants, among others.
