Grassroots Efforts Are Salient. Social Networks Theory provides the fundamental arguments for the salience of grassroots peacebuilding efforts vis-à-vis state-to-state diplomacy and other political approaches. The seminal paper in the area is:

Trade Causes Peace. The most important empirical research supporting the notion that trade causes peace is:

The Quest for Peace interviews are a collection of about 200 interviews taped by UCI Professor M. John Whiteley, Professor of Social Ecology, between 1983 and 1989 with some of the most informed, influential, and thoughtful people from the United States, the then Soviet Union, and other countries around the world. These interviews included experts such as Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Kenneth Galbraith and Barry Goldwater. Discussing the pursuit of lasting world peace in today's nuclear age, interviewees examined topics such as national security, religion, politics, business, education, and sociology in creating the environment necessary to attain world peace.
The interviews were originally videotaped for broadcast on PBS and cable television stations reaching 400 stations in 47 states and 28 million households. They are now accessible through the UCI Libraries website at
www.lib.uci.edu/quest.
