Jonathan Schell is our keynote speaker. Schell will present his visionary ideas from his just
published book, "The Unconquerable World: Power, Nonviolence, and the Will of the People." The book
explores the limits of violence and charts a hopeful and realistic course toward a peaceful future.
Schell's classic bestseller, "The Fate of the Earth," presented influential alternatives to
conventional, dead-end thinking at a time of global crisis. At this profound historical moment
Schell once again offers lucid, impassioned, and provocative ideas that are guides for best
practices in the new American peace movement. Schell is a regular contributor to Harper's,
Foreign Affairs, and The Nation.
Saturday, May 31st
9-11am Session 1:
The Lessons of War and Peace. How activists mobilize, communicate, and build coalitions. How
artists, musicians, poets, playwrights and performing artists drive media coverage.
11:15am-1:15pm Session 2:
Waging Peace-The Alternatives. How people can work together to create peaceful alternatives for
promoting global change -- build relationships among local and international activist groups and
organizations. The role played by the religious community in these interactions.
