Graduation for Academic Year 2009-2010

Commencement will be held Saturday, June 12th in BREN EVENTS CENTER!

There are two ceremonies 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm.  Go to http://www.commencement.uci.edu/ for more information.

NOTE:  Only those graduating seniors from Fall 2009 to Summer 2010 may participate in the June ceremony.

All students who plan to graduate during the 2009-2010 academic year MUST file a graduation application by the below deadlines.  Late applications will not be accepted.

  • Fall 2009 Quarter Deadline December 4, 2009
  • Winter 2010 Quarter Deadline February 5, 2010
  • Spring 2010 Quarter Deadline February 5, 2010
  • Summer 2010 Deadline March 12, 2010

Any LATE applications will be moved to the next available quarter. NO exceptions will be made or considered for late application submissions.

To ensure that your name gets printed in the 2010 Commencement Program, you must file your application no later than March 12, 2010.  Summer graduates will be able to participate in the Commencement ceremony as well as have their names listed in the Commencement Program provided the application is turned in by March 12, 2010.

Although the dates above will allow you to graduate on time, we strongly urge you to plan ahead and file for graduation in advance as well as schedule an appointment for an official graduation check.  The application to graduate can be completed on-line at http://www.reg.uci.edu/gradapp/.  Remember that credit for the last 36 of 45 units of work immediately preceding graduation must be earned in residence at the UCI campus.  If you indicate a minor or a specialization and you decide not to complete it, you need to inform our office.  If you have not completed the required courses for the minor or specialization by the graduation date and have not informed our office, we will deny your application and you will have to reapply for a later date.  It is also your responsibility to make sure we have received all transcripts from other colleges and universities and that all corrections to your academic record have been processed by the deadlines.  Failure to do so will result in your application being denied. Retroactive degrees will not be awarded.

Graduating with Honors

Of the graduating seniors, no more than 12 percent will receive Latin honors:

  • 1 percent summa cum laude
  • 3 percent magna cum laude
  • 8 percent cum laude

The selection for these awards is based on winter quarter rank-ordered grade point averages. To be eligible for honors at graduation, you must file an application to graduate by February 5, 2010.  You must be able to verify completion of all course work by the end of spring 2010 and be officially declared as a School of Social Sciences major.  Seventy-two (72) quarter units in residence at a UC campus must be completed by the end of winter quarter 2010.  In addition, any corrections to your academic record must be processed by the Registrar's Office by March 19, 2010.

For those graduating at the end of Spring Quarter 2010, a re-calculation of gpa will be done to account for Spring Quarter grades.  The re-calculation may result in your Latin honors distinction being moved or eliminated.

NOTE:  Summer 2010 graduates are not eligible for honors for the 2009-2010 academic year but will be considered for the 2010-2011 year.  No exceptions!

A list of those receiving Latin honors as well as other honors will be posted outside of the Undergraduate Counseling Office around late May.
