Undergraduate Education in the Social Sciences
The School of Social Sciences is the largest academic unit at UC Irvine and is home to five of the ten largest majors on campus.
Why do so many students choose the Social Sciences as their academic home? When you become a part of the Social Sciences community, you are joining a diverse learning community that is continually captivated by the world around us.
The variety of our many Social Sciences undergraduate degrees offer you, the student, a number of avenues to explore, analyze and impact our human world.
Explore
From the study of markets and cultures across the globe to the functioning of the human brain; from a look at local and international political systems to human relationships and social change; the Social Sciences Undergraduate Program offers endless opportunities to explore the human world.
Exploration of these fascinating areas extends well beyond the classroom. As a Social Sciences student, you have the opportunity to participate in our study abroad programs as well as our internship and community outreach programs designed to broaden your classroom knowledge with a real-life glimpse into a field or region of study that interests you.
Investigate
The study of modern social science involves a great deal of investigatory work, and in the Social Sciences, investigation takes the form of research. As an undergraduate student, you will have the opportunity through honors and campus-wide research programs to learn from and work alongside globally recognized faculty – ten of whom are members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Science, societies to which membership is considered one of the highest honors in the field.
Impact
Social Sciences students impact the world around us. Our alumni can be found making a difference everyday in boardrooms, classrooms, law offices and non-profit organizations across the globe. As a current student, you, too, will have the opportunity to impact our greater community and put your classroom knowledge into action through a number of our Social Sciences community outreach programs.
