"Taking the 193 series
with you really prepared me for the Masters courses I took
this summer. I was familiar with the research tools
available on campus as well as the basics of writing a
research paper. I know you always said your goal was to
prepare us for graduate school in my case, you did a
fantastic job."

"I just wanted to tell you thank you....for teaching us
courses that deal with real life situations. I am currently
working as a clinic's HIV Program Coordinator which means
that I am integrating HIV testing and risk assessment into
the teens Family Planning sessions. In addition, I have a
Youth Advisory Board composed of high school and college
students...I was able to put into use practically everything
that I had learned for example: training the Youth Advisory
Boar on how to conduct focus groups, holding 3 focus groups
at continuation schools, and showing them how to transcribe
and code for themes. I even brought my internship binder and
the ethnographic books into work to refer back to them....I
don't think I could have developed such great programs for
the surrounding community without having the background I
received at UCI. I just want to stress how much the public
and community service major and internships, which at times
were overwhelming, prepared me for a job that I absolutely
love and care so much for!!!!!"

"I am finding the field studies course the most hands on and
educationally significant course I have ever taken. The
balance between the field work and the study finally allows
me to learn in a real life setting. I find the class
challenging but I think this is why I am enjoying it so
much. For the first time since I have been at the university
I have felt comfortable with talking with my fellow
classmates and with faculty."
