Speaker Series

 

Inspirational videoconferences called Speaker Series are offered for viewing throughout the academic quarter. Some of the nation's top presenters, authors and business leaders talk about their experiences with leadership, creating a vision, identifying goals, and successfully transitioning from college to career to help motivate students. Events will be held at UC Irvine.

 

Leadership Training Day (LTD)

 

Students participate in an interactive worksheet and video to affirm their values, purpose, and skills to become an effective student, worker, and leader. Event will be held at UC Irvine.

 

Success Networking Teams (SNT)

 

Students are placed into teams of about 6 members where they share challenges, goals, and aspirations to help, advise, and hold each other accountable for accomplishing them. Event will be held at UC Irvine.

NSLS ACADEMIC CLASS

 

We are offering the NSLS class to members who are interested. The class is not required for Induction as a full member of NSLS and is 2 units P/NP. There are 2 ways that you can pass the class.

 

Method One:

Complete the Chapter Excellence Award requirements listed below. There will be no additional meetings for this option outside of the events listed below.

  • Orientation
  • Leadership Training Day (LTD)
  • 3 Speaker Series
  • 3 consecutive Success Networking Team (SNT) meetings
  • 4 hours Fundraisers/Socials
  • 5 hours Community Service

 

Method Two:

Join the Advisory Committee and complete 50 hours of work to assist the Executive Board and get leadership experience. This will include mandatory weekly meetings. The time and day of these meetings will be determined by the Committee and the Membership Outreach Coordinator. *You may still join the Committee even if you decide to not take the class.*

 

A detailed syllabus will be emailed out expanding on the details of the class after registration.

 

The class is listed under the Social Sciences as Soc Sci 189 Natl Socty Leadrshp. The course code is 70740 and you will need an authorization code to sign up. To be emailed an authorization code, complete the signup sheet at www.eee.uci.edu/signupsheet/nslsspringclass.

 

When singing up for the course, make sure to indicate the grade option as P/NP or you will get dropped from the class.

 

As a reminder, the last day to drop the class will be April 13th and the last day to add the class will be April 20th just like it is for any other class.

Induction

 

A chance to formally celebrate your initiative in completing the program and taking the next step towards your future. This ceremony is when you are awarded your membership items (T-Shirt, pin, certificate).

Society Dues

 

All students on campus can attend the speaker series events for free. For motivated students who are interested in becoming a member, similar to all honor societies, there is a one-time Society dues fee of $85.00.

 

This fee covers:

  •  Certificate of leadership training

  •  Membership pin

  •  T-Shirt

  •  Scholarships and awards

  •  Online job bank

  •  Access to success coaches

  •  Customized and personalized letter of recommendation (upon completing their membership requirements)

  •  Access to view five years of past Speaker Series

  •  Success Talks (15 additional minutes of video content of each presenter)

  •  Interview Series (audio interviews with experts on various topics)

  •  Motivational Mondays (weekly e-mails with five-minutes of motivational audio recordings)

  •  Participation in SNTs (a proven process where students help one another achieve goals).
