The Latina/o Student Psychological Association (LSPA) is
committed to providing a multifaceted awareness of both
professional and educational resources to enhance the
college experiences of dedicated students aspiring to serve
underrepresented communities in the mental health arena. Our
purpose is explicitly outlined in the following:
A. To assist in the professional and career development of
aspiring psychologists who desire
an education beyond the baccalaureate degree.
B. To assist aspiring undergraduate psychologists to
develop a sense of community,
highlighting the value of serving Latina/o and other
underprivileged and underserved
groups.
C. To promote and expand multicultural awareness in the
field of psychology.
D. To facilitate the connection between aspiring
psychologists and mentor networking
both off and on-campus.
PHILOSOPHY
This group’s mission and goals are founded on the five
educational pillars (Castellanos, 2000). Specifically, the
association will emphasize the value of academics, research,
practical experience, leadership, and community service for
a complete undergraduate experience. In addition, the
cabinet recognizes the value of the five elements for the
successful application of graduate school. Through
programming, dialogues, workshops and other educational
activities, LSPA aspires to assist students to acquire a
comprehensive education while attending to the five pillars
throughout their experience at UC Irvine.
