The Leadership Development Series from the Social Sciences Academic Resource Center (SSARC) exposes students to the various topics in academic leadership studies. SSARC Associate Director, Andrew Gonzales, will assist students in examining the variables, conditions, styles, and levels of analysis of practical leadership in today's organizations. Guest lecturers will also visit throughout the year to provide insight into their current research and practice. This developmental series transforms students into positive change agents in their organizations, groups, and future professions.
The purpose of the Leadership Development Series is to equip students with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively develop their own leadership skills. We empower students with opportunities to exercise their leadership skills through practical exercises, individual reflections and group-based activities. In addition, we encourage students in their pursuit of leadership development through feedback and discussion, dialogue and mentorship and leadership certification.
Our hope is to transform students into confident, capable, and caring leaders within their community and chosen career fields.
The SSARC Leadership Development Series includes a selection of 13 seminars addressing critical issues in leadership research. Each 60-minute seminar provides students with an in-depth exploration of the following topics:
|
• Nature of Leadership • Power and Influence • Trait Theory of Leadership • Leadership Skills and Behavior • Authentic Leaders • Leader-Member Exchange • SSARC Leadership |
• Contingency Leadership Theories • Transformational Leadership • Charismatic Leadership • Team Leadership • Path-Goal Leadership • Situational Leadership
|
Students completing 7 SSARC leadership seminars will receive a SSARC Certificate of Completion. Students who complete the series will have a more systematic understanding of leadership skill application and will develop the ability to recognize opportunities for leadership development. The certificate is endorsed by the SSARC Director and Associate Director and is available to all students regardless of school or major.
