For Employers

Benefits of the Program

The Professional Internship Program, based in the School of Social Sciences, reaches students with career interests directly related to most organizational needs. Students majoring in such fields as psychology, political science, sociology, business economics, and public and community service seek positions in the fields of finance, management, marketing, public relations, non-profit and social work, human resources, and many others.

Students also receive training in professionalism and leadership through the Professional Internship course, which allows students to receive academic credit for all internship hours completed. Internship agencies receive top quality interns without the need to pay a salary, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Internship Recruitment

There are three options to maximize your recruitment potential within the program:

  • Inclusion in our online database
  •

  • Participation in our quarterly Internship Recruitment Panels
  •

  • Communication with the program coordinator
  •

Once your application is received, it will be processed by the resource center and entered into the SSARC Internship Database. Students accessing the SSARC database may view your listing by selecting the appropriate career category. The online database allows for convenient internship search while the student is away from campus.

In addition to the online database, internship recruiters have the option to directly meet with students via the SSARC's quarterly Professional Internship Panels. Held in one of our state-of-the-art classrooms, panelists have the opportunity to showcase their internships using various multimedia, including slideshow, DVD, or the internet. Panelists may meet with students individually to discuss program opportunities and accept resumes immediately following the presentation. Internship panels are often the best way to improve the selection process.

We also encourage employers to maintain contact with the program coordinator in an effort to build stronger partnerships and to keep contact and internship information up-to-date. As a result, we are better able to publicize and recommend your internship program to individual students, as well as send out specialized emails exclusively featuring your internship. Such emails have been reported to generate 20-30 resumes during the first two days of their release.
