Jeanett Castellanos, Ph.D.

A lecturer at UCI, Dr. Castellanos is the faculty supervisor for the SSARC. Dr. Castellanos, affectionately known to her students as "Dr. C.," recreated the SSARC under her theory of the Five Pillars of Education. Each pillar–research, leadership, practical experience, community service, and academics–serves as the basis for all SSARC programming. An alumna of UCI, she received her masters training in counseling psychology and PhD in Higher Education from Washington State University. She is also the instructor for the internship and field studies classes that are offered through the SSARC.

 

Andrew Gonzalez, M.A.

Andrew has served as the SSARC Associate Director since 2005 after completing a one year position as the director of English Language Studies in Dafeng, China. He currently coordinates the many activities and events of the SSARC and also serves as a lecturer for the department's Professional Internship course and the director/advisor for programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Community Service and Leadership, Transfer Students, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Andrew also created the SSARC Leadership Development Program in 2008, along with various other developmental programs within the SSARC. A 2002 alumni of UCI, Andrew received his bachelors in Psychology and Social Behavior and completed his master's degree in psychology at the University of Chicago. He is currently completing a PhD program at Claremont Graduate University in Industrial Organizational Psychology.

Kristen Shiraki

External Chair

 

Kristen is a 5th year undergraduate pursuing a degree in International Studies and a minor in Political Science. This year is her second year as a CSLP Board member. She previously served as the Marketing Chair and served with the 2010-2011 cohort. Her other co-curriculars at the University of California Irvine: include serving as a site supervisor for Global Connect @ UCI and working at the Anthille Pub and Grill on campus. Post baccalaureate plans include obtaining a masters degree in education for adolescents.

Lavina Ho

Internal Chair

 

Lavina is a fourth year student doubling in Cognitive Sciences and Anthropology. This is currently her second year with CSLP where she previously served as the Support and Development Chair. She is happy to be involved on campus as the President of Psi Chi, Secretary of Pi Gamma Mu, and a Peer Educator for the UCI Counseling Center. Lavina is also one of the founding board members of Autism Speaks U and serves as the Community Service Coordinator. She enjoys volunteering with Spirit League, Friday Night Club, and other CSLP events in her free time. Lavina is also a research assistant in the Learning and Cognition Lab with Professor Martinez and is currently conducting an undergraduate research project in Professor Elizabeth Loftus' lab on memory beliefs.

Patriscia Gandasutisna

Public Relations

 

Patriscia Gandasutisna is a fourth year Cognitive Science major and is participating in her third year in CSLP. She is the Public Relations Chair and hopes to inform and promote this program to as many students on campus as possible. In addition to CSLP, she is also a Corp Member for Jumpstart, volunteering her time to promote literacy for children from low-income families in Santa Ana. She is currently applying to Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy programs in hopes of doing therapy with children and families in the future. Whenever she has any free time, she enjoys playing tennis, shopping, watching movies and cooking shows, and spending time with family and friends.

Lindsey Marco

Support and Development Chair

 

Lindsey Marco is a third year undergraduate student at the University of California, Irvine pursuing a degree in Cognitive Sciences with a minor in Education. She is also involved as a research assistant in the Learning and Cognition Lab where she helps investigate the effects of stress on learning. In addition to serving as the Support and Development Chair of CSLP, Lindsey is also serving as the Vice- President of Autism Speaks U, UCI chapter and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She plans to pursue a doctorate in counseling psychology and in the future she hopes to work with law enforcement in order to be a voice for the abused and unheard.

Joyce Lopez

Executive Administrator

 

Joyce is a fifth year Psychology and Sociology undergraduate student. This year, she is happy to serve as Executive Administrator of CSLP, Peer Academic Advisor at the School of Social Sciences Undergraduate Affairs, and Student Representative of the UCI Student Conduct Review Board. Joyce can occasionally be found working at the front desk of Langson Library as a copy service assistant. On her free time, she enjoys working out at the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), bonding with her co-ed honor fraternity brothers, and learning a new thing or two every day.

Jessica Vartanyan

Events and Planning

 

Jessica Vartanyan is a fourth year Cognitive Sciences major. This is her second year with CSLP and first year as a board member. In addition to CSLP, Jessica is also involved in research on campus studying health and well-being in pregnancy and in Jumpstart as a Corps Member, volunteering with pre-k children to help improve their early childhood education experience. After completing her undergraduate career, she wishes to achieve a graduate degree in either developmental or child psychology so that she may be able to do therapy with children.

Bonnie To

Financial Coordinator

 

Bonnie is a third-year undergraduate pursuing a double major in Business Economics and Psychology and Social Behavior. This is her second year in CSLP and first year as Financial Coordinator. Bonnie's other involvements at UCI include the Undergraduate Business Association, Global Connect, Active Minds, and research in the life-span development and motivation lab. During her free time, she enjoys creating arts and crafts, hiking, and playing board games. She plans to attend graduate school to study her career interests in financial management and industrial-organizational psychology. She is glad she joined CSLP as it provides her with opportunities to learn more about leadership, continue her joy for volunteering, and meet new friends along the way.

Natsumi Shiraiwa

Marketing and Publicity

 

Natsumi Shiraiwa markets the Community Service and Leadership Program through the many uses of advertisements such as posters and flyers. The marketing of the program is important to raise awareness of the program and its' events which develops an interest for future members of the program.

 

 

Committees

 

TREASURY

Purpose: Financially support the Community Service & Leadership Program in order to fund the membership benefits and various necessities for members such as food, t-shirts, certificates and graduation sashes for Second Year Members. The Treasury Committee plans and executes fundraisers throughout the year and through school-sponsored events such as Wayzgoose and Discover UCI, as well as creates relationships with companies to obtain donations for raffles and other CSLP fundraising-related events.

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Purpose: Maintain and expand the relationships of the Community Service & Leadership Program while promoting a positive and respectable reputation within the University campus and other outside organizations. The Public Relations committee creates club collaborations, participates in school-sponsored events such as Discover UCI and Wayzgoose, hosts non-profit panels, creates the content for the newsletter and maintains the website.

 

MARKETING AND PUBLICITY

Purpose: Effectively market the Community Service & Leadership Program to support CSLP activities and events, as well as develop an interest in CSLP for potential members and organizations. The Marketing and Publicity Committee creates, publishes and distributes all marketing and publicity materials such as the quarterly newsletter, brochures, publicity packets, advertisements and posters for all events.

 

SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT

Purpose: Foster and strengthen relationships between the members of the Community Service & Leadership program as well as between the Advisory Board members, ultimately creating a network of support for all CSLP members to enhance the CSLP experience. The Support and Development Committee hosts and creates socials throughout the year, such as picnics in the park, game and movie nights, and school-sponsored club competitions, as well as regularly contacting members with updates and reminders for upcoming events and bits of inspiration.

 

EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR

Purpose: Uphold the organization and efficiency of the Community Service & Leadership Program by maintaining, assessing and evaluating all applications, progress and membership completion and CSLP events of CSLP members. The Executive Administrator Committee maintains the membership completion system by creating the sign-in sheets, verification forms, volunteer waivers and attendance program that CSLP uses for their official progress records, as well as sends out email reminders, creates the carpool lists and evaluate the progress of members to make sure they will complete all the requirements.

 

EVENTS AND PLANNING

Purpose: Create all service-learning opportunities for the Community Service & Leadership Program to fulfill the ultimate goal of learning through service and making a difference in the local community and university campus. The Events and Planning Committee searches for and creates Service Projects and Workshops for CSLP members that fulfill the requirements in order to complete the program, as well as maintains the calendar of events for CSLP.
