Dr. Jeanett Castellanos currently serves as the Director for the Social Science Academic Resource Center (SSARC) in the School of Social Sciences at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Castellanos is responsible for coordinating many functions within the Social Science Academic Resource Center, including the Social Science Professional Internship Program, Post Baccalaureate Opportunities Program, Research Education Advancement Program, and Graduate School Preparation services. Dr. Castellanos also serves as a Lecturer for the Department of Social Sciences and the Chicano/Latino Studies Program teaching classes such as: Racial Ethnic Minorities in Higher Education, Chicano/Latino Families, Comparative Cultures, and Research Methods. In addition, she has served as a consultant for various higher education institutions in the area of cultural competency. Dr. Castellanos holds two baccalaureate degrees from the University of California Irvine, a Masters of Education specializing in Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Washington State University. Her research focuses on the college experience of racial and ethnic minority students and the psychosociocultural factors that affect their retention. Other research interests include Latina/o student coping, spirituality, and wellness. Dr. Castellanos received the Samuel Turner Mentor Award from the American Psychological Association from Division 12 for her outstanding commitment to minority education and research in 2007. Dr. Castellanos has co-edited two books, The Majority in the Minority: Expanding the Representation of Latina/o Faculty, Administrators and Students in Higher Education (2003), and Pathway to the Latina/o Ph.D.: Abriendo Camino (2006), both which address Latina/o student experiences in higher education. Most recently, Castellanos co-authored a chapter on education and training about Latinas/os and their communities in the Council of National Psychological Associations for the Advancement of Ethnic Minority Interests (2007). She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA), and the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE). |
