School of Social Sciences Grade Change Guidelines
Please read the Senate policy (UC Irvine Academic Senate Manual, Appendix VIII) to understand faculty rights and responsibilities concerning reporting incidents of Academic Dishonesty.
The information and resources on this page are intended as a supplement to the Senate Policy on Academic Honesty, not as a substitute.

Any student may add or drop a Social Sciences course through the end of the sixth (6) week of classes unless otherwise stated by instructor or department.
Students enrolled in courses in the department of Economics may add or drop a course through the end of the second (2) week of classes.
Instructor’s signature is required for all add or drops after the second (2) week of classes.
Any student may change grading option in a Social Sciences course through the end of the sixth (6) week of classes unless otherwise stated by instructor or department.
Students enrolled in courses in the department of Economics may change grading option through the end of the second (2) week of classes.
Instructor’s signature is required for all change in grading option requests after the second (2) week of classes.
SCHOOL AND MAJOR REQUIREMENTS MUST BE TAKEN FOR A LETTER GRADE
All grade changes must be authorized by the Social Sciences Associate Dean
A grade change may be granted ONLY for the following options:
1. Replace an Incomplete (I) with a grade
2. Replace a No Report (NR) notation with a grade
3. Correct a procedural or clerical error
Calculation error (i.e. failed to include attendance/test score/assignment in overall grade)
Transcription error (i.e. entered incorrect grade)
Procedural error (i.e. student should have received an I)
Only Instructors can request an Academic Record Change Request form.
