From the OC Register:
The men’s and women’s basketball teams of UC Irvine share a passion for basketball. But they’ve also found common ground off the court, in sociology classrooms around campus. Seven of the 16 men’s players are sociology majors, and five of the 15 women’s players are majoring in the subject…Sociology is a popular major for basketball players for a variety of reasons.
