Some analysts, however, don’t think the marches will have much effect on lawmakers in Congress, where the Senate passed an immigration bill in June that has since stalled in the House. “I think they are important to keep activists engaged in the process. I don‘t think they are going to have much influence at all on Congress,” said Louis DeSipio, a professor of political science and Chicano/Latino studies at the University of California, Irvine. … That’s because the holdup in Congress is not among members who can be swayed one way or another, DeSipio said.
