  • Samples of past Forum events are listed below, to provide additional inspiration...

 SAMPLE PAST EVENTS:

Advocacy All-Star Exhibition Debate

Orange County Deputy District Attorney and Law Forum alumnus, Don Marc Dimaranan, presided as Master of Ceremonies for an action-packed debate between two teams of Forum members who had already completed the "Advocacy" course.

The judicial panel included:

  • The Honorable David O. Carter

  • The Honorable Donald F. Gaffney

  • The Honorable Ronald P. Kreber

Our distinguished judges were extremely impressed with the advocates' performance.  They provided a great deal of personal feedback in addition to their substantive ruling on the hypothetical case.

Criminal Ethics, Trial & Appellate Advocacy:

Discussion & Demonstration

Members of the Law Forum Senior Seminar hosted a presentation introducing criminal law and ethics, trial practice, and appellate advocacy.  Members of this group had a broad spectrum of experience working with criminal law, debating ethics, studying oral advocacy and/or participating as members of UCI's award-winning Mock Trial Team.  The event was filled with discussion opportunities and live demonstrations.

Earth Day Presentation

Law Forum Member Allen Haroutounian presented his article on Global Warming and the Massachusetts v. EPA case.  This was a sneak peak at one of the diverse articles in the latest Law Forum Journal.  Sponsored by the Law Forum in conjunction with the UCI Environmental Law Society, the UCI Pre-Law Society, and the UCI Women's Law Association.

2nd Amendment Presentation

Law Forum Member Mike Palzes presented his article on gun regulation and the Heller v. District of Columbia case.  This was another sneak peak at one of the diverse articles in the Law Forum Journal.  Sponsored by the Law Forum in conjunction with the UCI undergraduate chapter of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.

LF Member/Alumni Social & Fundraiser

Current Law Forum Members and Local Alums periodically get together to socialize at Gina's Pizza on Campus Drive.  Gina's generously donates a portion of the evening's proceeds to the Law Forum's annual fundraising campaign.

Intellectual Property Panel Discussions

& Law Firm Mock Interviews

Members of the 'Law Forum Seminar I' class wrapped up their introduction to Intellectual Property law with a panel presentation by local attorneys.  During this interactive discussion, the panelists described their experiences practicing Intellectual Property law at various local law firms.

This information, coupled with personalized instruction in preparing resumes and research portfolios, helped class members prepare for their mock job interviews at leading intellectual property law firms such as Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear, LLP.

Leadership/Temperament Seminars

Several guests, including community business leaders and professional experts, have joined the Law Forum in sponsoring personalized seminars.  These seminars address the impact that individual personality traits, motivational triggers, and leadership styles can have on career planning, group dynamics, and even legal strategy.

Seminar participants complete assessment surveys such as the MBTI (Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator) or the SDI (Strength Deployment Inventory).  Our guests have then scored the results for everyone, and explained how participants can apply the results when communicating with others in a variety of professional settings.

Alumni Law School Admissions Panels

A large number of Law Forum alumni have been featured at events such as LAWLAPALOOZA -- the law school planning event sponsored by the UCI Pre-Law Society, Women's Law Association, Environmental Law Society, Phi Alpha Delta, and the UCI Career Center.

Law School admissions representatives from a variety of schools offered insider tips on the admission process, and the UCI alums shared their experiences and advice on success at their various law schools.
