Dear Julie,

Some of the faculty here are going through the tenure/promotion review process right now, and they've given me some good advice that I want to share.   Can you forward this info to the graduate students on the job market?

1.  Set up a file folder or file folders IMMEDIATELY and put copies of info: conferences presented at, workshops attended, grants received, etc. right away as they happen, so when the time comes you aren't searching for pieces of paper here and there for supporting documentation.

2.  Get a copy of the document [for tenure or resume] you will have to fill out, put it on your word processer, and start filling it in as you go so you don't have to try to remember everything you did for six years.

I just started filling out my copy of the document (see #2)  and I'm surprised how many lines I've already got.  I've only been here a month, and I know I wouldn't remember the teaching workshop I attended last week 6 years from now.

Hope you all are still having a good summer - we've been in session four weeks now!
