Have you ever been accused of not “seeing the forest for the trees”? Don’t feel bad, says Cognitive Sciences Professor John Serences. His research suggests that our brains are specifically wired to only take in the trees. Similarly, a person looking for a red object will see all the red objects around them, effectively tuning out objects
of different colors.
Come along on a journey with Serences as he investigates the inner-workings of our seemingly one-track minds. Learn how our expectations, goals and past experiences impact what and how we see. Discover which parts of the brain are actively involved in making decisions and distinctions. Explore how Serences’ cutting edge, ground-level research could one day lead to better recognition and treatment of brain dysfunctions and abnormalities.
Serences earned his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University and joined the faculty at UC Irvine in 2007.
Dinner is $40 Per Lecture, or $140 for all four lectures.
All dinners will be held
at 6pm in the University Club Library.
