


The Department of Cognitive Sciences pursues research in four broad areas: cognition and information processing, mathematical behavioral science, perception and action, and cognitive neuroscience. It is also the home department for the undergraduate Psychology major at UC Irvine.
The Department is ranked 22nd in the nation in the category of cognitive psychology by US News & World Report. A nationally-acclaimed faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and a well-rounded student body make the program one of the best of its kind. Faculty and students use experimental psychology, neuroscientific and theoretical methods to understand better human visual and auditory perception, attention, learning and memory, information processing, language and consciousness.
Graduate-level training is offered in the following areas: (i) Cognition and Information Processing, (ii) Mathematical Behavioral Science, (iii) Perception and Action, and (iv) Cognitive Neuroscience
Undergraduate training is offered through a major in Psychology.
