Casa Cesar Chavez Residents
Bienvenidos a Casa César Chávez. I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ramón Muñoz, founder and Director of Casa César Chávez. An alumnus of UCI, I am an Academic Counselor in the School of Social Sciences. I have long been active in Chicano issues and have been involved with the Department in Chicano/Latino Studies since its inception.
Casa César Chávez is the academic theme house sponsored by Chicano/Latino Studies. Established in 1994, Casa is well-known for its strong sense of comunidad y de familia and a commitment to public and community service. Casa hosts several cultural and social activities (for example, the annual Reunión de Arte in the spring) throughout the year. Casa continues to offer a wide variety of activities to its residents and the larger Chicano/Latino community on campus. Casa has presented lectures by Chicano and Latino faculty, community leaders, and authors. The house has received numerous awards and recognition ("Best Community Spirit", "Best Residents", and "House Assistant of the Year") throughout the years. Casa César Chávez is truly una casa de la comunidad para la comunidad.
