As UCI's School of Social Science's undergraduate leadership
council, we work together to address school and local issues
and concerns, to promote strong ties between students and
faculty, and to develop a progressive social academic
community.
The council works in tandem with the school's administration
and faculty. Our efforts focus on both
in-reach and outreach.
• Internally we create and host a number of annual program. i.e., Cafe
Social, Faculty and
and Film Night, New Transfer Orientation Program, and Dean's
Day.
• Off campus we support community-based philanthropic activities. i.e.,
Second Harvest,
OC Food Bank, Red Cross, UNICEF.
• Most notably, we created and implemented UCI's first educational
outreach in the Social
Sciences--GlobalConnect@UCI.
OUR HISTORY
The Social Sciences Ambassadors Council was established in
the Spring of 2001 to unite the
various disciplines in the School of Social Sciences. With a
student enrollment of over 5000, it is essential that we
improve communication between faculty and staff. To achieve
this and enrich our community, the council has successfully
initiated various programs. These include hosting and
coordinating:
• Quarterly social and philanthropic events in an effort to enrich the
bonds between the
students, faculty, and the surrounding community.
• An original outreach program, GlobalConnect@UCI, that aims to better
educate
students about the phenomenon of globalization along with the
School of Social
Sciences.
• University-wide sponsored activities and frequent hosting of visiting
dignitaries to our
school demonstrates our dedication to improving the School of
Social Sciences and the
University as a whole.
Membership on the Ambassadors Council is a significant
responsibility and honor serving as
a force of innovation and providing the School of Social
Sciences with a student-based leadership organization.
